Nigel Lythgoe looks set to receive a philanthropy award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation.
Arlene Phillips is involved in bringing 'FlashDance - The Musical' to the West End's Shaftesbury Theatre in September!
Christopher Biggins will be taking part in the forthcoming Dancing on Ice Tour - judging, not skating!
Juke Box Juniors are in demand since their appearances on Got To Dance - and ambitious, too, quite rightly - they don't want to be the next Diversity, they want to be bigger than them!

Got to Dance: The Final
It was a Kent dancing double this weekend, as little streetdancer Akai won with this fantastic, tight performance, his best of the competition, and very cheeky!
Through to the final three with Akai, were dance troupe The Box with another, multi-coloured dreamscape. Jukebox Juniors made up the third act for the final dance off, starting with a tune from The Wiz - remember that? Yes, I have the album ... they're a brilliant bunch of kids, an amazing cantilever trick, full of energy and fantastic dancing, my favourites from the moment I saw them!
Another impressive performance from Matthew Koon utilising a major piece of equipment, but it wasn't enough to make it through; he has a big future though, no doubt. Emily sparkled in a silver and gold gymtastic display, with MJ Latin doing their best in an early MJ inspired Latinfest, in which I think the boys solo dancing shone.
Performance of the night for me though - the unbelievable Diversity who seem to top every performance, I can't wait to see the StreetDance movie!

Got To Dance Semi Final 3
Youngsters all the way as Akai and The Box take the remaining two places in Sunday's final. Tough draw too, a much higher standard overall than the other two semis, I thought. It was Adam's turn to showoff this week.
When Akai started I thought, yeah, he's good but it's a bit stop-start - then he moved into the popping and from there on in he was mesmerising. Cracking performance! The Box I hadn't seen before - a lovely, imaginative routine, touching and emotive. Far, far too cute *wipes eyes*
Dance Dynamix were full of attack, but not particularly tight and no special tricks to set them apart, good effort though. Eclipse were fabulous, I loved this nautical themed Lindy Hop, a full on proper showdance, all bounce and great timing. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Unity Youth I also loved - well, they used the Star Wars theme, job done for me! Musically fantastic, carried the space theme right through really well. Fancy Feet and their stunning footwork, great mix of modern and traditional, fantastic to watch.

Got To Dance Semi Final 2
Kimberley's turn, dancing to the PCD's Too Sexy and what can I say, Littlun's behind me singing along, he tells me it's on Pop Party. I'm scared to ask what he thought.
Matthew Koon and MJ Latin both made it through to the final - Matthew is stunning, his control, lines, the emotion. He's so fluid, it's riveting to watch. Check out those pirouettes. MJ Latin are very good but I'm too used to seeing so much Latin to be wowed, impressive for their ages though not as tight as streetdancers. Nice, as Adam says.
Raw Edge - nice tricks, creative and energetic, loved the Irish breakdancing, lol, added flavour, a little disjointed but enjoyable. Beyond Repair didn't do it for me I'm afraid - just felt I could've done some of it and that can't be good! Energy, that's what I was missing, as Kimberley pointed out.
Kane Ricca - I love tap normally but that was just too messy for me, however fantastic technically - just didn't seem to have any direction as a routine or connection with the music, except at the start when I thought he was spot on. The judges appreciate. DNA not particularly exciting, except the neck breaking trick, didn't quite capture the imagination as before.

I think it's a reaction to seeing boys dance; I've got my work cut out, getting him into stage school ... even though he and his class mates are apparently staging Thriller in their assembley on Friday. Their ten minute assembley! He's got the bloody and ripped Tee-shirt all ready to go!

Got To Dance Semi Final 1
But first - the incredible performance by Diversity - the attention to detail, every little hand movement and flick of the head, they're just awesome, so in tune and the slot machine section - choreographer Ashley will be in demand for the rest of his life.
Thrilled that Juke Box Juniors made it through, also creative and inventive, bundles of energy - the breakdancer in the blue suit is amazing - no wonder Ashley's a fan! Also through was Freestyler Emily Crow, with a more emotive and musical performance this time which I enjoyed, though Kimberley did echo what I'd said before regarding her lines. Love that she'd use the prize money for tracksuits! And stage school, of course - I look forward to seeing her in ten years time on So You Think You Can Dance, trying different styles.
Sad to see Status not make it through, following another creative gem, a real show piece; Martin Sierra could be a great dancer if he stopped with the cringy stuff and danced seriously - be interesting to see what a contemporary choreographer could do with him. Bhangra Heads truly entertaining but not tight enough, while Parallel, although some fine ideas - specially the Tom Jones break! - not quite there in dancing terms yet, but again, entertainment very much to the fore.

The Aussie all-singing, all-dancing Got To Dance judge, 36, on his penchant for British ladies’ underwear (and British ladies in general), wanting to be David Attenborough, and his unusual pulling tactics…
What’s been the most memorable moment of Got To Dance so far?
Adam Garcia: Aside from the woman whose top came down mid-dance… I would say Matthew Koon has been the most memorable act. He’s a 15-year-old boy, and when he came on, that was when the bar was set.
Were there any awkward audition moments?
AG: The worst was when a woman came on and thought she deserved to get through simply because she had the desire and because she was 40. She was so genuinely and aggressively upset that we didn’t think she should go through. It was really a moment of sublime denial, there was some delusion there.
Do you think dancing is a good way to pull women?
AG: Are you kidding? Don’t you like a guy who can dance? Don’t you like being thrown around a room?
Um, yes please. So did that make you very popular with girls growing up?
AG: Actually, no. That came after school, when you enter the real world and people go out to enjoy dancing. But I think girls are a bit smarter than that. A guy can dance really well, but also be, ‘Hey, I’m a buffoon!’ But it does help.
You’ve done TV, film, stage… Which do you prefer?
AG: My immediate response would be theatre – there’s nothing quite like the pressure of having to perform live. But I also love the medium of film. I’m going to go for theatre, but I’ll do it all.
What was your childhood ambition?
AG: I wanted to be David Attenborough. I still do. He’s a remarkable man. I think I wanted to go around the world eliminating poaching. Perhaps I can still do that and go down to the whaling ships of Japan, as they try to collide with the Greenpeace ships, and sink them.
What were you like at school?
AG: Probably pretty average. Most of my reports said ‘has potential’. I was quite naughty, I didn’t know when to shut up. I did get detentions and things like that, but I was fairly diligent and obedient.
Describe yourself in three words?
AG: Pretty good fun!
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
AG: Very early on in my career I had to go to a big shopping mall dressed in a black lycra cat-suit, including a head-stocking, covered in gold jewellery and dance publicly on a catwalk. That wasn’t a great gig, but it was $50 and I was about 16. Luckily, I had the head-stocking on, so the scorn and derision I received wasn’t too bad.
What’s your most embarrassing drunken escapade?
AG: There have been a lot! Probably when I was in the Victoria snow fields with a friend when we were 18. I decided to go skiing after getting really drunk on schnapps that I couldn’t handle. In my underpants. If I hadn’t fallen over, it may not have been such a silly idea, but I did fall over a number of times. And I couldn’t really get up. I was really, really cold, but didn’t realise until I came in and then that burning-cold feeling set in.
Do you get a lot of fan mail?
AG: There have been times when I have, mostly when I’ve been doing a show. Every now and again I get recognised. People stop and do that, ‘Is that my brother’s friend? He looks familiar.’ Or they’ll say, ‘Are you the guy from Coyote Ugly?’ If I say yes they’ll say, ‘No, you’re not!’ But if I deny it they’ll say, ‘Yes, you are!’ So depending on my mood, I’ll say either.
What kind of fan mail do you get?
AG: Fluffy toys, letters asking for signed photos. Unfortunately, no knickers or bras. Actually, can you write this down in quotation marks – send immediately. I think perhaps I’m too sweet-looking or I haven’t had sexy enough roles, but I think it’s probably time I got sent some knickers.
Do you prefer Britain or Australia?
AG: I’ve been in London for 13 years and I adore it. It’s one of those places that truly moves and shakes the modern world. But I grew up in Sydney. Imagine going to school, then coming home and going to the beach for a surf. It’s a great lifestyle. Saying that, I like lots of things about Britain. I love the accent, and I love British women. Yes, send knickers immediately!
Have you ever had a big fashion disaster?
AG: People would argue that in general my wardrobe may be a complete fashion disaster. It certainly was in my early teens in the late 80s and early 90s. I mean, what was I thinking? Seriously. Trousers that looked like curtains. Why?
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
AG: The most romantic thing is walking up to a woman completely drunk in a bar and saying [slurs], ‘How about it? Grab your coat, love, you’ve pulled.’
Do you ever use chat-up lines on women?
AG: No, although I was with a friend last night who has a four-month-old Labrador pup and, by gum, if that puppy isn’t the best chick magnet! Girls were coming up to us saying, ‘Aw, isn’t that dog beautiful, what’s its name?’ And we’d say, ‘Let’s do it.’ ‘Sorry?’ ‘No, that’s the dog’s name, Letsdoit.’
Very good, better than a cheesy line…
AG: Well, my friend, who luckily is very good-looking, he would put a 10p coin in his eye like a monocle and say, ‘Can I borrow 10p?’ It doesn’t make sense, it has no relevance, it’s completely random, but it breaks the ice a bit. But because it’s on the verge of someone who is a bit nuts, moving on from that is somewhat difficult.
THERE’S MORE• Adam was speaking to us from his family’s home in Melbourne where it was 9.30pm our time and 7.30am his time. He got up super early especially to talk to us. What a gent.• While we shivered in the snow he told us he was looking out of the window at blue sky and 28°C heat. Jealous?• Adam totally charmed the pants off us when we asked him whether he ever used chat-up lines and he replied, ‘What works for you?’ Um, just talking to you works quite well, Adam…

Snippets: SCD, SYTYCD, GTD
A taster of what's in store on the Strictly Come Dancing tour - I'm thrilled there's a group Charleston number, they look fab!
JLS are confirmed for So You Think You Can Dance, performing their new song One Shot ... Anton and Erin's Steppin' Out show review ... excellent article 'Born to Dance' by Davina Morris in The Voice.
In Got To Dance, judges Ashley, Kimberley and Adam have whittled 98 acts down to just 18, for the three live semi finals, the first of which is January 24th. Two acts will be voted through by the public to the grand final.

Got To Dance - Emily Crow
Yes, Paddy and everyone else, I have now finally seen Emily's audition! It actually starts at about 2.15 on that video. She's very bendy, isn't she? OK, now, I don't take into account auditionees ages - I treat them all the same. So, while I agree that Emily is fantastically talented and could grow into an awesome contemporary dancer, this for me was more a gymnastic performance than dance. And if you check out previous posts of mine, in particular the Strictly Come Dancing Semi, you'll see rhythmic gymnastics is really not for me. I thought the performance quite hard and lacking musicality and the lines were sometimes unfinished and untidy. And I still maintain the outfit and the make up is far too much. You did keep asking me to check it out, mainly, I think, in order for me to agree with you about how outstanding she is - but I have to be honest and say I've preferred others I've seen. Sorry.

News in Brief: SCD, DOI, GTD
Reports are surfacing that Strictly may revert back to a two night format, but with a live results show on the Sunday night - the problem before was that it was recorded and the result was always leaked. The two hour plus shows at the beginning of Series 7 were a bit of a mission but the cash for a live Sunday show may not be available. I'd imagine they'll see how it goes with So You Think You Can Dance having the results in a separate show on the Saturday night and maybe revert it back to that - how it was originally! In the olden days, you know, before the bandwagon of slagging it off started to roll ...

Got To Dance
And much as I'd loved to have watched the show and seen the best of the auditions, I'm stingy and object to paying so ... the hottest auditions according to the website were 15 year old Matthew Koon, dancing to Chasing Cars. Very elegant, contemporary, a standation and three yellow stars - his parents now convinced. Adam calls him world class. And ten year old Akai, wot a sweetie! There was this one move, where he slid on his back, well, see it for yourself!
Spandexx were a comedy dance group, who I didn't think were particularly funny or good - maybe if they lost the beer bellies they'd be better - MJ Latin were a tight knit group of talented youngsters, think junior SCD group pro-dance, to be honest, it's nothing we don't see all the time. DNA, another group - I personally think I saw better on MLMJ. Then we saw the boob-popping-out moment of Havana Nights - but not their actual dance (admittedly, they weren't very good but why make such a big thing of the poor woman's embarrassment!) Er, word to the wise, Sky guys - wanna be taken seriously, actually put the hottest auditions on the website - I know from a friend there were some awesome acts, in fact, in this little montage here (and below - but I suspect that'll disappear) I'm sure I spotted Plague! Oh, and while I'm on the website - don't tell me I can register for free and then after I've gone through it all, tell me there's a fee!

News in Brief: Streetdance, SCD, GTD
There's a trailer for Streetdance, the movie featuring Diversity, George Sampson and Flawless - I didn't have any sound for it, hopefully you will. But I'm very much looking forward to seeing this next year!
Ricky Whittle is heading for Hollywood and would love to star in a remake of Dirty Dancing - I'm thinking, you can't improve perfection, so maybe a re-write updating it to include a bigger variety of dance styles would be better.
Brendan Cole answers a few questions regarding his own tour - and revealing that Strictly is one of the worst things he's ever done. But he'll keep going back!
Dancenergy have made it through to the top 60 acts in Got To Dance - how much we see of them I've no idea. Davina defends the decision to put through a ten-year old autistic boy, James Hobley. The thing is, if his talent warrants a place, wouldn't it have been discriminatory of them not to put him through? The decision NOT to take part would have rested with his parents, surely? The show kicks off with a preview at 6pm on Saturday night - same time and day as the BBC's So You Think You Can Dance - then continues on Sunday at 6pm with a two hour double bill.

Ten things you never knew about So You Think You Can Dance's presenter Cat Deeley. Or maybe you did!
Dancing on Ice Friday, the new spin off show, will be hosted by Loose Women's former contestant Coleen Nolan.
Davina McCall is looking forward to watching Got To Dance with her family - she's never fronted anything suitable for them to see before! Although she's been asked, she's turned down Strictly Come Dancing because of the time she'd have to be away from her children. And judging by this article it doesn't look as though she'll be making time either, even when her own are grown! I've never been a fan of Davina particularly, but I have to say her attitude to dancing is warming me to her!

News in Brief: SYTYCD, GTD
Interview with Cat Deeley - they missed the obvious headline didn't they? The Real Deel-ey ... and already the shows must be in competition with each other, with we poor viewers having to choose which to watch. Not. I haven't got Sky for a start - jeez, I haven't got time to watch everything I want on Freeview, for goodness sake! Anyway, it sounds like they'll be completely different - the top 14 in SYTYCD are all proper dancers, whereas GTD is going for the sob story/dodgy X-Factor mix. Although, I can't see Kimberley, Adam and Ashley actually putting anyone that bad through, personally. I hope not, anyway! And an interview with Kimberley and her high hopes for the dance shows impact.

Ashley Banjo hates having to disappoint the youngsters ... an extended trailer and lowdown on Davina's Got To Dance ...and their youngest competitor, 11 year old Emily Crow gets a head start on the opposition in the PR stakes. It says she's eleven - if they're going to dress her older, though, why not as a twenty something, instead of Eartha Kitt? Just sayin'. Here's a dancer busting some moves but looking the part - and his age!

The final rundown of the US So You Think You Can Dance, courtesy of MJ, with accompanying videos of the guests acts too and judges fave performances.
Interview with Got To Dance judge and Pussycat Doll Kimberley Wyatt.
"Dad" dancing an evolutionary device according to scientists! They can test the theory by having a Strictly special in 20 years time with Ramps, Austin and the rest!
Philip Schofield confirmed Spice Girl and Strictly Come Dancing semi-finalist Emma Bunton as the new judge on Dancing on Ice - and sprung to her defence before she was subjected to an Alesha-like backlash - she's there to judge the dancing aspect, as is Jason - Karen, Nicky and Robin take care of the skating!
Dance owned the last decade, this review says so - and is predominantly speaking of ballet - but I'd suggest all forms have upped their profile, certainly in the last five years!
Age is no excuse from now on! Check out Mrs Paddy Power!

Erin Boag may be out of the competition, but she's still very busy! Find out what she gets up to during the week with her sneaky backstage diary. Find out what the dancers eat (especially a very messy Vincent) and what she gets up to outside of Saturday!
Rachel Stevens and Vincent are reunited for their ‘Christmas Special’ routine and are both delighted to be dancing together again! Chris has revealed he is in complete and utter shock at reaching the semis! To get this far and against so many other wonderful dancers was a real surprise. Ricky really wants to show the people at home that he is having a great time and really wants to be here - he has said that he definitely does not want to leave the competition at this stage. Dancing With The Stars 'Triple Threat' Julianne Hough (dancer, singer, actress!) has released a dance-yourself-fit DVD to add to the rest of them gathering dust, I mean, residing on the shelves for the post-Christmas fat-burn-off push.
Actor Gary Lucy is looooking gooooood for the start of Dancing on Ice in January, partnered by reigning champion Maria Filipov. That rumour is pretty much confirmed then!

And Just Dance, Sky's reality rival for the UK SYTYCD, has been re-named Got to Dance - click here to see a trailer featuring Davina - no, that's not her somersaulting off the table! Am tempted to get Sky now - only because of Ashley, mind!
