So You Think You Can Dance: Cue Music!

I'm already excited and it's just the intro! Nigel and Arlene looking like the Dream Team in the search for Britain's Favourite Dancer, with Louise providing perfect harmony together with choreographers Sisco and Priscilla. Just one hundred Golden Tickets up for grabs - I haven't had my appetite whetted so much since the last lot dished out by Willy Wonka. Some will go straight through, some will go home, the others will make it through to choreography to prove their worth.

In London, we see Charlie from Peckham, a bendy firecracker, and Roz from Dundee, who proves big girls can dance, make their way through to choreography, then our first GT in the shapely shape from shapesville that is Brazilian Hugo Cortez - control yourself, Arlene. Nope, she's failing, mind you , so am I. He's a WOW, balletic, athletic, you can hear nothing but Arlene's thudding heart above the haunting music. "Where have you been all my life" she asks. "He wasn't born for half of it" quips Nigel. Hugo humbly accepts his ticket.

And over to Manchester, where Robbie the elegant and smooth contemporary dancer gets his GT, together with Claire, dancing in a strapless effort. Brave. And there's more - inspiring, invigorating, lovely ... Jourdan, the Irish Latin girl with Camilla Dallerup arms, is a yes to choreography. We're back to London and ... wasn't she the burlesque dancer on Britain's Got Talent? Oh My God - she just fell off the stage! So that'll be a no to choreography then. There follows a brief interlude with a few deludeds but the director wisely doesn't dwell.

Hip Hop dancer Billy from Glasgow could always set his sights on Pommel Horse Gold if he doesn't make it through this; his legs are mesmerising and there's personality too! Hip Hop Mark from Milton Keynes looks familiar. Hm, that's where Animaineax's came from *scurries off to check the MLMJ site* I'm pretty sure it's him - 2010 already the top year of his life! Good to see he hedges his bets! I wonder if the rest auditioned too and we didn't see them? Mark uses Man in the Mirror again to good effect, the judges love him.

Tommy the beat boy contemporary takes a GT, so does Lizzie - who wanted to do choreography, just for the fun of it! Graham, one half of a ballroom couple goes through, leaving a disappointed girlfriend Robin. Then another bunch of 'no's' including the dancing deckchair!

We're into choreography now and they're split into couples, choreographed by Paul. Billy loses out, unable to cope with an unfamiliar style - but come back next season. He's got a fab attitude to it, no weeping and wailing that his life ended, just "You'll see me again." Good on ya, Billy, I hope so. Roz and Jourdan make it through. Moving onto the ballroom section- and here's James Jordan and Kristina Rihanoff to show them how it's done by way of an American Smooth to Moondance - James in serious barking mode as he piles on the pressure. Robbie, Bethany, Martin, Annabelle and Charlie all through - Robbie offers to demonstrate the big lift on Cat; she politely declines. We're down to 56!

Hip Hop next, courtesy of Kate Prince, choreographer of Into the Hoods - and she's brought a mightily tough routine with her, the dancers are struggling to keep up and so are the medics! They've all got to come back and do it again the next day. They're whittled down to 48; Graham the ballroom boy is out; Roz and ballet boy Alistair are through. Broadway! Stephen Mia has one hour to teach them an America routine from West Side Story. This doesn't go so well either - and Jourdan has been cut. Down to 40!

Mark Baldwin, the Rambert artistic director, hits them with contemporary "give the judges something to look at " he purrs - MK Mark is singled out for his hydraulics - he's through! Roz is out now, a leap too far - but she's good - get in shape, try again next year.

Group dances - they're split into four's and five's and blindly choose a CD to choreograph themselves. Individuals lose out, and, in the case of one group, all of them. Then came Annabel's group with an absolute peach of a routine to "I wanna know what love is" one of the best Nigel's ever seen. They're flying through now. But it's down to 26 for their final solos - the judges are smiling all through. Ten girls, sixteen boys, seven of each to go through. The biggest shock - Hugo, not out because of talent, but visa issues. A real blow. But we have our final fourteen and they're all here. I know, I was so impressed last night, specially with Annabelle's group! These six weeks are going to fly by :-)

    Hi Eric,
If I wasn't an 'amateur' in the purest sense of the word I'd check it out, but thank you for letting me know :-)
