Remember the t
eam names from the last post? Here we go then, Mattiella out first to Evacuate the Dance Floor - hardly an encouraging song to begin with, considering how scared she is! Why was she so scared? That was really good - great lift and spin, terrific musicality, got more comfortable as she went along. Well done! Score 17.Stuana next, Tana's got the determination and fitness of a sportsperson and oh! Bleeps! Fancy that! Take My Breath Away the song, it's tentative, a bit dependant on Stuart but that's to be expected in week one. Some nice lines, lovely lift. And she's nice! And nice will generally get you through early on, when they're all in the same place, technique wise. Jason's being booed; Gordon's on his way ... Score 12.5
Tacky Teeth #2. They've got the babies in on it now.
Tacky Teeth #3 Shaun's bit shy, we only see Gill.
Meet the boys, a determined bunch: Gary - competitive but zero dancing skills; Bobby - most enthusiastic; Danny nearly had his eye taken out already; Hilary - potential for disaster; Kieron and Jeremy both scaredy cats; Mikey - up for the challenge. They're glad of the extra week to train.
Hayliel with a head start on the connection, childhood friends - how will the rib injury affect her. It doesn't - super performance. With feathers! To Shake a Tail Feather - see what they did there, clever wardrobe people! Technical, tidy and full of personality, put a smile on my face! Score: 19.5.
Tacky Teeth #4 Anthony and Penny up next ... oh, no, wait ...Penthony it is.
Marilyn and Mark. Markilyn. Put her down, for God's sake .... TT#5
Sharrel - Sharron's frustrated and it shows. A lot. Search for the Hero their song, a lovely opening with armography. Needs to straighten up though and very nervy, a lot of limb to control. Jason well out of order but both Sharron and Karen are going to get him later. Think the aggresive nature won't endear her to the public though, much as I admire her as a sportswoman, you need to be softer on these shows. Score: 12.5
Fremily - I do believe Emily has a crush on Fred! She's a squealer, must contain it for Love Story - strictly no giggling! Nice first performance, bit stuttery, good lifts but Emily didn't do much tbh, needs a bit more skating in between Fred lifting her around. Not so keen on the about-to-burst-into-tears-look. Score: 11
TT#6 Julia and Greg. Julieg. Need to get a room.
TT#7 Ned and Amy. Nedamy. Nice hats.
Andritta and the palm frond dress gets an outing, lol. She's very sweet, hope she nails the lift. Halo the song, musicality no problem, nervous due to the lift, an initial stutter but then she nailed it! Confidence immediately soared. Well done. Score: 15
TT#8 Carla and Mike. Mikarla. Tongue job. In public. Ugh.
TT#9 Henrike and Diana. Henriana. Chatty. That's better.
Hatt taking the challenge. Conga! More first night fringing! Good shimmies, needs to loosen her body a bit more, but good effort for a first night and doing the show for the right reasons, an inspiration to all. Score: 15.5
My votes go to Hayliel - enjoyed the most, and Andritta, potential there but middle of the board danger place. Dance off wise, I'm thinking Sharrel and possibly Fremily.
TT#10 Vicky and Tom. Tomicky. He's got a stiff ... neck, she's so tiny.
The Skate Off: Safe - Stuana; Hayliel; Hatt; Mattiella; ooh - last one to be announced after the break - TT#11 Denny and Veronique. Denique. Close up. Yuck. TT#12 Nedamy, still at it. And it's Fremily safe! Well, well, Andritta in the Skate-Off - see, middle of the board - NOT SAFE! Guys, come on! Overall, I can't see Sharrel improving enough to beat Andritta, but her posture is better, a resigned air about it, which did make her more relaxed. Andritta - ooh, didn't make the lift this time, but held it together and recovered to different position but overall a better skate. OMG - look at his trousers - aw, bless she's gutted - why give them such a difficult lift the first week?
And the judges ... vote for Sharrel??? Only Emma voted for Sinitta. Bit of a shocker - I mean, if the better dancer in the skate off makes a mistake, they're going to put the worse one through? So, theoretically, you could end up with the worst skaters in the final? Have to say, I thought that a no-brainer, but there you go. @Schofe gutted - I'd love to know what T&D thought of it.
The Official Result
After months of training at up to 20 hours a week, the celebrity skaters were ready for the first spectacular live show. This week saw the girls taking to the ice and skate for their place in the competition.
Torvill and Dean opened the show with a stunning brand new circus themed routine and were joined by the Dancing On Ice professional skating partners skating to Dave Stewart And His Rock Fabulous Orchestra’s Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This).
Actress Danniella Westbrook and partner Matthew Gonzalez were first up and danced to Evacuate The Dancefloor (Cascada) scoring 17 out of 30. She said afterwards “I am ecstatic. This is the best thing I’ve done. I love it. Robin said “Terrific. You said you were nervous. The skating will grow. A fantastic first performance.” Emma said “You go girl. Your transitions were great. The more you relax, your true ability will shine through.” Karen said “You needed to get that under your belt.” Jason added “You had great natural lines. That was an incredible first performance.”
Next up was Tana Ramsay and partner Stuart Widdall skated to Take My Breath Away ( Berlin ) scoring 12.5 out of 30. Afterwards she said “I just wanted to get it done and just enjoy it and I loved it. It was terrific but the scariest thing I’ve ever done.” Jason said “Lyrical romantic expressive that was not. There was no connection between you and Stuart. I know you’re not a dancer so you have to work even harder. You have hands like paddles. You need to get a bit of your husband’s fire.” Nicky said “Your family and friends will say well done. Having said that there is a mountain to climb at the moment. There’s gaps between the movements at the moment. You need to get them flowing from one to another. You can do it just don’t stop between the movements.”
Actress Hayley Tamaddon and partner Daniel Whiston who skated to Shake A Tail Feather (Tina Turner) scoring 19.5 out of 30. She said “That was the best ever feeling ever in the world.
Jason said “You’re like a Shetland pony full of energy. So far head and shoulders above what I’ve seen so far. You and Dan definitely have a great connection. It did look a bit contrived in your face so pull that back a bit.” Emma said “It’s was a bit stage school smile. I never thought I’d see a performance like that on the first show. But don’t get complacent and keep it up.”
Former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies with skating partner Pavel Aubrecht was next up and skated to Search For The Hero (M People) and scored 12.5 out of 30. She said about Jason “He’s in the next dressing room to me he’d better watch out. It’s great fun and I didn’t want to let Pav down. I’m a sports person and I have to have a permanent smile on my face which is a bit hard!” Jason said “If I had to be honest you looked possessed by a tree. Very angry arms, they looked like branches. No expression whatsoever. Because you are taller you have to work harder on softening and on being more feminine. If you can strike a feminine line I’ll be happy. Actually I’d be happy if you could look human out here!” Karen said “I can’t believe some of the things you say (to Jason). You relax, have fun with it and we’ll work on your arms.”
Actress Emily Atack and skating partner Fred Palascak skated to Love Story (Taylor Swift) and scored 11 out of 30. She said “I just want to do it again. I wish I did it how I did it in the rehearsals.” Nicky said “Once you’ve done it once you don’t know what it feels like. I want you to attack everything you do. Looking lovely which you do isn’t enough to get the marks up.” Emma said: “You didn’t skate much you made me feel nervous. I felt uncomfortable. I need you to get some more confidence and get the marks up. Come and surprise us.”
Singer Sinitta and skating partner Andrei Lipanov were next up and skated to Halo (BeyoncĂ©) scoring 15 out of 30. She said “It was amazing and I really enjoyed it." Robin said “Once a dancer always a dancer. The skating’s a little tentative but when that catches up with your performance you’ll be right up there.” Karen said “You have a great musicality and body awareness. You have a lot of potential well done.” But Emma said “I’m sorry I disagree. I thought the dancing was really timid. I spent all of my time looking at your partner who’s gorgeous and I want to see that foxy Sinitta that we all love.”
Last up was Heather Mills and partner Matt Evers who skated to Conga (Gloria Estafan and the Miami Sound Machine) and scored 15.5 out of 30. She said “It was great. I wanted to inspire all the amputees on my website.” Nicky “I saw this in rehearsal I just go wow. At times I’m not seeing any disability and I’m looking at how much the celebrity is skating. You look confident. For me it’s joint first I can’t believe it.” Jason said “It’s the rest of you we need to work on. A lot of your dance ability was thrown away. You need to watch some of your transitions and you need to work out how to make getting into them attractive.”
No one wanted to be the first to go but it was Sharron Davies and Sinitta who found themselves in the bottom two receiving the least public votes. The judges chose to save Sharron after Sinitta stumbled and ripped partner Andrei Lipanov’s trousers during her frog lift. All of the judges apart from Emma chose to save Sharron.
Sinitta close to tears said “I had such high hopes. I was starting to love it. I can’t even speak I can’t even believe. And before the results were in she said “I feel gutted.”
Don't forget the Friday preview show at 8pm, ITV, with Coleen and Ben, before the boys take to the ice on Sunday!
Lol Scatty - like the running commentary on the Maclean sponser adverts thrown in :o)
ReplyDeleteSorry been out of touch. Not been into work since wednesday! Back now I can actually get through the snow round me and can actually reply to your posts about DOI :o)
Impressed mostly. Liking Hayliel and Mattiella already. Daniella particularly was a lot better than I expected. Really liked Andritta as well, I'm soooooo disappointed they're out :o( Poor Andrei just can't get a break can he?! He's so yummy to look at as well *sigh* ;o)
Annoyed by Emily's giggling girl persona, just found it a little irritating as a first impression. Sharron needs to lighten up big time if she wants public support! Also found her slightly irritating which is probably why I'm extra disappointed that she was saved over Sinitta.
Noone standing out quite like Ray did last year, but then he was a unique case I reckon :o) Already looking forward to the guys show next week - Come On Bobby davro! Lol :o)
Agree with all you said! Glad you're back, it's been too quiet ;-) Should be interesting to see if the boys are up to the standard!
